Lynn Tech baseball coach Eddie Lewis said it “felt good to get out there and play baseball with some good weather. We couldn’t have asked for a better start.” That’s because his Tigers (3-1) scored three runs out of the Fraser Field gate en route to a 15-5 victory over Nashoba Valley.

Eddie Lewis Jr. went 1-for-2 with three steals, while Will McCafferty went 3-for-4 with four RBI. Mario Giordano (RBI), Nevin Gonzalez (3 RBI), and Colin Newhall all went home with two hits apiece.

For the Tigers, who went on a 12-0 run in this one after trailing 5-3, they visit Christo Rey at noon on Thursday.

“Once we found a rhythm, there was no looking back,” Lewis Sr. said. “I told the guys that we’ve been here before. Let’s play the game for seven innings and let the chips fall. I’m very proud of my team and all the hard work they put in during the week. I have nothing but respect for my guys. All the hard work they put in behind the scenes was on display today. These guys are doing the right thing on and off the field and, more importantly, in the classroom. The fact that we’re playing well early in the season is the icing on the cake.”

The Pioneers’ offensive explosion continued Tuesday morning at Essex Tech, defeating the host Hawks, 15-0, by mercy rule in five innings. Sophomore Ben Dahlstedt went the distance to collect his first varsity win. He allowed three hits, struck out four, and walked one.

Junior captain Tyler Adamo and junior Nick Groussis had big days at the plate. Adamo was 4-for-4 with a double, triple, four runs scored, and four RBI. Groussis was 4-for-5 with two runs scored and three RBI.

Senior captains Owen Mullin (3-for-4, run, RBI) and David Tracy (2-for-3, run, RBI), as well as sophomore Luke DiSilvio (2-for-2, 2 runs) also went home with multiple-hit games. Senior captain Anthony Grabau (1-for-1, run, 2 RBI), junior Madux Iovinelli (1-for-4, run), junior Walt Radulski (1-for-2, run), and senior Cole Hawes (1-for-3, run) also connected on base hits.

The Pioneers have a week off before returning to action next Tuesday at Georgetown. First pitch is slated for 4 p.m.

And still. The Spartans upped their record to 4-0 on the young season, topping Skowhegan (Maine) at Myrtle Beach to kick off the morning in style. Josh Doney (win) and Jacob Peterson (save) combined for a five-hitter with eight punchouts, while Rowan Merryman (2-for-4, 2 RBI) got the job done in the batter’s box.

Tuesday came with a two-hit shutout from Salem’s Riley Fenerty, and the Witches took care of business, 3-0, in Peabody. Despite defeat for the Tanners, Dylan Cunningham (6 IP) allowed just two hits to go with no earned runs and 11 strikeouts.

Josh Sigmon (2-for-3), Joey Smith (double), and Cunningham (double) rounded out Peabody’s offense.

Mystic Valley 9
KIPP 4

KIPP dropped to 0-4 after its 9-4 defeat at the hands of host Mystic Valley. That said, hits are starting to come, alongside some other positives. Bryan Conde went 1-for-3 with a triple and two RBI, while Ermel Campos pitched 4 1/3 innings of relief “that kept us in the game,” according to KIPP coach Jim Rabbitt.

Marblehead 1

Chris Cannuscio (1-for-3) of the Magicians roped an RBI, but that’s as good as it got for Marblehead, which welcomed the Clippers to Seaside Park for a matinee. Newburyport outhit the hosts, 7-4, and its pitchers racked up 13 strikeouts collectively.

Riley Schmitt, Charlie Sachs, and Cameron Quigley connected on hits for Marblehead, while Matt Mahan punched out two and allowed just one earned run across four innings.

SOFTBALL

Swampscott 14
Manchester-Essex 4

Melanie Blood and Hayden Haskell led Swampscott to its first win of the season – a double-digit one, at that. Blood left Manchester-Essex hitless across two innings, while Haskell struck out eight.

The Big Blue offense had 14 hits, led by Hayden Haskell’s three-run homer in the second inning. Lauren Fahey connected on two doubles and three RBI, while Cece O’Connor went home with three hits.

VOLLEYBALL

Wakefield 0

Three sets, three wins for the Lynn Classical volleyball team (5-1), which took care of business against visiting Wakefield in an afternoon showdown. Set scores were 25-20, 25-16, 25-17.

For Classical, which next hosts Medford at noon on Friday, Kenzel Lantano led the way with 27 assists and seven aces. He was followed by Jonathan Ly’s 12 kills and two aces, as well as Viet Tran’s 10 kills and six aces.
