Team of the Week - Swampscott boys lacrosse
press-releases

You know what I’ve been thinking? It was much, much more than a 3-0 week for Swampscott.

Coach Geoff Beckett’s boys lacrosse team outscored its opponents 43-17. Heck, that’d be a good scoring run in football, let alone lacrosse.

Big Blue, big headline. They defeated traditional archrival Marblehead, 10-9, last Thursday, April 11 to snap the Magicians’ 62-game Northeastern Conference winning streak.

“Huge rival win. When the schedules first came out, I circled them on the calendar. I saw the timing of it and I talked to our AD (Kelly Wolff) to get it to be a night game because I had a feeling it would be special,” Beckett said. “It feels great, especially because of the Swampscott-Marblehead rivalry. It’s one of the greatest rivalries in Massachusetts. It’s not just football – it’s every sport.”

And if that win was the ice cream dish, Monday (Salem) and Tuesday (Gloucester) were the cherries on top – or, one cherry and some whipped cream.

In a 15-5 victory over the Witches, Jason Rothwell netted five, while Jack Hazell (3), Chase Russo (2), John Von Barta (2), and Liam Keaney (2) all went home with multi-goal games.

Then came an 18-3 thrashing of the Fishermen. This time, Carson Palmer led the charge with five goals. Better yet, seven players scored and Timmy Sheehan made eight key saves.

“Carson Palmer had a real breakout game, scoring three goals in the first quarter while winning a lot of face-offs,” Beckett said. “Timmy Sheehan made some great saves in the fourth, stopping Gloucester from making a comeback.
