St. Mary’s wins (x2) - Itemlive
press-releases

It didn’t come with ideal weather, but it was a happy Friday for St. Mary’s High School, which picked up a pair of wins in boys lacrosse and baseball.

The laxmen snagged their first win in the Darwin Fernandez era, defeating the Lynn Jets (1-2) at Manning Field behind eight goals from Finn Racki – yes, eight.

Steven Lake picked up the shutout between the pipes, and the Jets just didn’t have an answer despite goalie Christian Serino’s strong first-half performance. They stand at 1-2 after defeating Revere, 11-3, earlier in the week. Trey Rossetti, Ian Brown, and Jordan Em went home with multi-goal performances against the Patriots.

St. Mary’s, 1-1, hosts Archbishop Williams Monday at 5 p.m., while the Jets welcome Medford Tuesday at 7 p.m.

It may have been Fernandez’s first win, but it wasn’t Derek Dana’s. His baseball Spartans opened the season with a 3-0 win against defending state champion Milton at Fraser Field.

Josh Doney was dominant, striking out 10 batters across six innings. Offensively, Isaiah Weston (2-for-3, RBI), Kyle Doney (2-for-3), and Jared Paone (1-for-2, RBI) were charged up, while Rowan Merryman registered the game-winning RBI.

Looking to keep the momentum intact, the Spartans (1-0) play host to Archbishop Williams Monday at 4:15 p.m.
