MARBLEHEAD — The term “horsing around” could have been used quite literally on Tedesco Street Monday morning.

According to police records, Rosemary Collins, of Pilgrim Road, reported that her horse had ran away around 7:16 a.m.

At 7:33 a.m., the Police Department received multiple calls of a horse on the loose heading west toward Tedesco Street from Ruby Street. The Swampscott and Salem Police Departments were notified, and according to dispatch, the horse later made its way to the Tedesco Golf Club area.

Ruby Street resident Meghan Perlow said she was making lunch for her kids before school when one of them shouted, “Mom, a horse went by the window!”

“Couldn’t believe my eyes when I stepped outside and there goes a horse trotting down Ruby Ave,” Perlow said.

She said that her neighbors on the road all came out to see if they could assist in the situation, offering to calm the horse using apples and carrots. However, it kept on trotting toward Tedesco Street.

“I’ll admit we weren’t expecting to have to wrangle a horse first thing Monday morning,” Perlow added.

By 7:35 a.m., police had the horse in custody and it was returned to Collins’ home.
