No errors, strong pitching, and a versatile offense – that’ll, just about, do it in any baseball game.

Just three days after Saugus’ final-inning loss to Beverly, the frustration continued as visiting Peabody took Monday’s matchup, 7-1, at World Series Park.

Dylan Cunningham of the Tanners sported a complete game, allowing just three hits, one earned run, and two walks to go with six punchouts. Offensively, Jariel Tolentino (2-for-4, 2 runs), Joey Smith (1-for-3, 2 RBI), Cam Connolly (1-for-3, run, RBI), and Noah Crocker (1-for-3, run, RBI) led the charge.

For Saugus, it was close until the sixth inning – that’s when the Sachems committed three errors.

That said, Danny Zeitz struck out four, Connor Bloom went home with the lone RBI, and both Shane Bourque and Tyler Riley connected on hits.

BASEBALL

Lynn Classical 10
Chelsea 0

The Rams (4-3) kept their momentum intact from wins earlier in the week, putting up a 10-piece against Chelsea at Fraser Field. The pitching unit of Rolky Brea, Christian Figueroa, Michael Raithel and Braeden Ohannesian combined for a one-hitter.

Raithel and Roberto Peña each picked up their first varsity hits.

Offense was on full display in this one, as the Bulldogs reached double digits in their road win against Malden. Gamalier Calderon (3 IP, 9 strikeouts) went 2-for-4 with an RBI, Jordan Hernandez was 1-for-2 with three RBI, and Kenry Manzanillo batted 2-for-3 with two RBI and two walks.

St. Mary’s 2
Salem 1

The Witches tried to take down the Spartans – something that hasn’t happened yet this season – and fell short as St. Mary’s upped its record to 6-0 in a 2-1 final. The visiting Spartans were led by a Kyle Doney home run, three scoreless innings from pitcher Matt Lewis, and a win from Josh Doney (4 IP, 7 strikeouts).

St. John’s Prep 0

The BC High baseball team (8-0) wasn’t going to allow a traditional archrival to pick up a road win, defeating St. John’s Prep, 9-0, behind Liam Kinneen’s (15 strikeouts) no-hitter. The offense wasn’t too shabby, either, with five runs scored in the second inning.

The game came just three days after Prep took care of St. Paul, 10-6, behind Cam LaGrassa’s single, triple, and two RBI.

SOFTBALL

Lynn Classical 24
Chelsea 1

This one was never in doubt, said the Lady Rams (4-2; 4-1 Greater Boston League). They defeated Chelsea (0-6) with ease, 24-1, in enemy territory. Do-it-all Nevaeh Eth was 3-for-3 with a homer, triple, six RBI, and three runs.

That wasn’t all. Aliany Ramirez scored three runs alongside an RBI, while Emma Chevalier scored four runs.

The Bulldogs continued their hot streak and it’s safe to say – bats stayed hot.

Arianna Laboy (6 strikeouts, 2 BB) pitched well, while five English batters went home with hits. Kate Johannson and Laboy each secured three RBI, while Annika Johansson and Grace Mulloy added two apiece.

Archbishop Williams 1

Peabody needed some late-game heroics and got just that from Lizzy Bettencourt, who smashed a two-run homer in the final inning to give the Tanners a 3-1 win over Williams. Abby Bettencourt punched out eight and allowed just four hits, while Logan Lomasney had two hits and Jess Steed went home with an RBI single.

Saugus 5
Swampscott 4

Taylor Deleidi went the distance for Saugus in its 5-4 win against Northeastern Conference foe Swampscott. She walked just two batters, allowed only three earned runs, and punched out two.

It wasn’t easy, though. Saugus trailed 3-1 in the sixth before Lily Ventre (single, 3 RBI) hit a three-run homer to give the Sachems the lead. Felicia Alexander drove in one more late, and that was all she wrote.

For the Big Blue (9 hits), Hayden Haskell did a solid job in the circle, allowing seven hits against 26 batting attempts. Maddie Lilley went 2-for-4 with two RBI, while Lucia Alvarado went 2-for-3.

BOYS LACROSSE

Danvers 8

Coach Jason Marshall and his Tanners got the job done late, escaping Danvers with a one-goal victory on Monday. Matt Bettencourt played the role of the hero, scoring five goals. Johnny Lucas, Derek Collins (2), and Antonio Anzalone netted the others.

Despite a two-goal performance from Finn Racki – to continue his stellar spring – it wasn’t St. Mary’s night as it lost by double digits at Manning Field.

GIRLS LACROSSE

Madi Barrett had herself a milestone Monday, tucking her 100th career goal in Peabody’s dominant 17-2 win against Danvers. The hero of the day scored four goals alongside three helpers.

Offensive contributors included Ally Bettencourt (3 goals), Brooke Lomasney (5 goals, 3 assists) Connie Patturelli (first varsity goal), Addy Merrill (goal), Kayla Landry (goal), Katie Amico (goal), and Victoria Vaz (goal). Caitlin Snow made nine saves on 11 shots.

BOYS TENNIS

Lynnfield 5
Bishop Fenwick 0

Another match, another shutout for the Lynnfield boys tennis team (2-0), which put on a show against Bishop Fenwick on the road. Dan Levin, Shea McCarthy, and Russell Kasdon dominated singles play – McCarthy and Kasdon didn’t even concede a game.

In doubles play, Kurt Rothermund and Matt Reinold won 6-2, 6-0, while Emile Coumans and Ash Mahajan – in their first varsity match together – followed with a 6-0, 6-2 triumph.

Swampscott 5
Winthrop 0

Swampscott (5-1) conquered the Vikings in dominant fashion, picking up a shutout on home court. Brothers Charles and Sam Schepens, as well as Julian Flake picked up singles wins, while the duos of Nick Custer-Trevor Talebian and Elijah Stadtlander-James Dicker cleaned up the doubles department.

Swampscott 3
Winthrop 2

Talk about being clutch. Swampscott’s girls tennis team faced adversity against Winthrop – on the road, no less – and escaped with the hard-earned victory. Sasha Fafel picked up a singles win, while the combinations of Victoria Quagrello-Eve Byrne and Ava and Alexia O’Donnell got their jobs done in doubles.

First singles went down for Peabody, but the Tanners responded en route to a 4-1 reeling in of the Fishermen. Valentina Goga and Yasmine Giacalone secured singles victories, and it was all uphill from there.

“Theodosia Kourtelidis and Jill McGrath played fantastic tennis together, winning their (first doubles) matchup in two sets,” said Peabody coach John Sousa. “Vanessa Kolani and Argiro Psyhogios showed great poise and comradery as they defeated their (doubles) opponents in the second set after a competitive battle that went into a tiebreaker in the first set.”

In set scores of 12-25, 25-17, 21-25, and 22-25, Classical suffered its second loss of the season against a tough Chelsea side. The Rams stand at 6-2 (3-2 Greater Boston League) and were led by Kenzel Lantano (26 assists) and Jeremiah Vargas (5 blocks, 4 kills) Monday evening.
