ROUNDUP: Lynnfield reaches double digits in Swampscott
press-releases

Bright and early – the baseball game between Swampscott and Lynnfield (10 a.m.), and how the visiting Pioneers took care of business in this one.

In its 11-3 win, Lynnfield belted 10 hits with Fordham-bound third baseman Anthony Grabau leaving with two hits and five RBI. Madux Iovinelli (3 hits, 2 doubles) was strong on the bump, tossing five scoreless innings and punching out five Big Blue batters.

Swampscott’s Jami Ford took the loss on the mound, while right-handed pitcher Dawson Dibarri “looked sharp in relief,” according to coach Joe Caponigro.

Speaking of looking sharp, Chase Groothuis and Casey Decamp each recorded two hits for Swampscott (3-2), while Nick Berube and Connor Chiarello also chipped in with base hits.

BASEBALL

Somerville 8
Lynn Classical 0

Somerville had its way with Lynn Classical Wednesday morning, sporting an 8-0 shutout on its home diamond. Despite the loss, Rams’ freshman Mark Walsh “had another solid game at short,” as said by coach Leon Elwell. Walsh (1-for-3) has a hit in each of Classical’s last three games.

Junior Rolky Brea played a strong game in right field, while senior Micheal Raithel pitched well in 1 1/3 innings of relief.

Saugus 12
Winthrop 0

The explosive Sachems logged eight runs in the fifth, catapulting them to a near-perfect performance against the Vikings of Winthrop. Danny Zeitz and Connor Bloom touched home in the first inning, and it was all uphill from there.

Tyler Riley and Jordan Rodriguez each went home with two-run singles, while ace Cam Soroko punched out a dozen Winthrop batters.

Marblehead 5
Beverly 4

A 3-2 deficit after three innings was no problem for the Magicians, who stormed back with three runs in the fourth to tame the Panthers. Marblehead showed off its versatility, too, with six batters connecting on hits.

Bodie Bartram led the offensive attack with two RBI, while Carter Sahagian (4 IP) struck out five and allowed just three hits.

St. Mary’s 6
Without Walls 5

These Spartans never quit. Despite a 5-0 hole in the seventh inning – and seemingly no way out of it – they stormed back in Myrtle Beach to defeat Without Walls (DC), 6-5.

Michael DeMaino (2 RBI), Jaiden Driscoll (RBI), and Shea Newhall (3 RBI) led the comeback effort late for St. Mary’s, which upped its record to a perfect 5-0.

SOFTBALL

Lynn English 9
Chelsea 1

Three runs in the first inning – not a bad way to start. The Lynn English softball team, helmed by coach Ashley Aldred, defeated Chelsea, 9-1, in enemy territory on Wednesday.

Do-it-all Kate Johansson was the only one to leave the ballpark with a multi-hit game, going 2-for-4 with three runs, two RBI, and a walk. English outhit the opposition, 7-2, while Johansson (7 IP) punched out 17 batters in her complete-game victory in the circle.

BOYS LACROSSE

Marblehead 12
Masconomet 5

One hat trick is good, two is even better, and three is something else. Jack Whipple, Reece Moore, and Will Sullivan scored three goals apiece to lead the visiting Marblehead laxmen to a 12-5 victory against Masconomet.

The scoreboard showed 5-3 (Marblehead) at the break and 1-1 after one, but the Red and Black pulled away in explosive fashion from there.

BOYS TENNIS

Lynn English 4
Revere 1

Tanvir Haque (6-0, 6-1) and Giovanni Aubin (6-0, 6-1) each picked up singles wins against the Patriots on Wednesday. Add doubles victories from Jordan Alas-Dabriel Rojas and Bobby Thipavong-Ethan Chilel, and it’s a Lynn English win.

The Bulldogs welcome Somerville at 4 p.m. on Monday.
