The lousy weather may have delayed Friday’s action, but Saturday was worth the wait – and then some.

Swampscott’s baseball team made its way to Winthrop High School for a matinee showdown with the Vikings. After 16 intense, slightly-wet innings, the final score favored the Big Blue, 6-5.

Offensively, junior Nick Berube (3 hits, 3 runs), sophomore Chase Groothuis (3 hits, run), and sophomore Caden Ross (2 hits, 2 RBI, run) all got the job done.

Joe Caponigro’s Big Blue upped their record to 3-1 before hosting Lynnfield on Wednesday. First pitch (vacation week) against John O’Brien’s Pioneers is slated for 10 a.m.
