Lynn will spend Earth Month polishing parks

LYNN — The city will continue to celebrate Earth Month on April 20, when the summer sessions of Keep Lynn Clean Saturdays commence at Warren Street Playground from 1 to 3 p.m.

The park cleanups are spearheaded by the Department of Public Works and the Littering Committee. Committee Co-Chair and City Councilor-at-Large Brian Field described them as a great way to build community while volunteering for a good cause.

“Many hands make light work,” Field said. “There’s no truer saying than that for this. Oftentimes, within the first hour we’re done cleaning up the park and we extend into the different neighborhoods.”

The park cleanups will take place every Saturday until June 22. Field said all supplies are provided and the time spent volunteering for the cleanups can be used as community service hours.

“We’ve put a lot of effort into investment into the parks,” Field said. “With these cleanups I think it’s improving the park, it’s a community effort.”

Field said anywhere from five to 50 people show up for the cleanups.

The cleanups are every Saturday from 9 to 11 a.m., unless specified otherwise, and are canceled if there is rain.

Cleanups will be held as follows:

April 20: Warren Street Playground from 1 to 3 p.m.

April 27: Magnolia Park from 1 to 3 p.m.

May 4: Henry Avenue Playground

May 11: Keaney Playground

May 18: Ames Playground

May 25: Clark Street Playground

June 1: Flax Pond Playground

June 8: Sagamore Street Playground

June 15: Barry Park

June 22: Lynn Commons
